Happy NYE!!!

New Years Eve is a fun holiday not only because it's a fresh start to the new year but also because your able to spend time with close friends and get all 'jazzed up'. It's a holiday where you can get away with wearing a somewhat loud sequined dress because it seems this holiday was renamed 'the bigger the better...bring on the bling'. It's all about sparkles, dresses, jewelery and feeling glamorous. Here are some of my favorite looks for NYE 2011! Have a great night and be safe:)

Wednesday

"Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it’d be worth it."

Saturday

It's too easy to get caught up in the chaos that the holidays bring. From purchasing presents, preparing the "perfect" meal to decorating the house, we sometimes forget what Christmas is all about. Be sure to take a step back today and remember those who are less fortuate, whoever that may be.

"Christ's Mass"is not about the "things" that we receive but rather the memories we create and the meaning behind the holiday altogether-the birth of Jesus and spreading joy, love and peace to all around you.

Happy Holidays! May God bless you with a memorable day and a very happy year to come!

Tuesday

Gonna Look Amaziiing!

The Holiday's should not be a time that you chose to go on any type of crazy diet but rather just watch your portion sizes or my personal favorite, making adjustments to some of your all-time favorite recipes to cut the fat and calories without sacrificing the flavor!

My family has always had a tradition of having both coffee cake and an egg sausage casserole on Christmas morning. Ry and I decided to have a small Christmas just the two of this past weekend before we head to SF tomorrow for a Christmas with the whole family. I decided to make a couple adjustments to the egg sausage casserole and by doing so, it was equally delicious and alot more nutritious. You can do this with any of your favorite recipes, go through each ingredient and see if there are any healthier substitutes you can make!

Ingredients

1 pound bulk pork sausage (5 Foster Farms Turkey Mild Italian Sausage Links)
6 eggs (1 1/2 Cups of Egg Beaters)
2
cups milk (2 Cups Non-fat Milk)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground mustard
6 slices white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (6 slices of Whole Wheat Bread)
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (1 Cup Sargento Low Fat Cheddar Cheese)

Directions
1.In a skillet, brown and crumble sausage; drain and set aside. In a large bowl, beat eggs; add milk, salt and mustard. Stir in bread cubes, cheese and sausage. Pour into a greased 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Nutrition Before: 334 calories for 1/12 of casserole, 23 g of fat
Nutrition After: 80.25 calories for 1/12 of casserole, 6.8 g of fat

This one cracks me up everytime!

Saturday

For those of my friends in Med School right now, God bless you! I've had some bad luck finding a doctor that I relate to and feel cares enough to actually spend more than 5 minutes nodding their head behind the computer. There is a lack of human connection and a lack of what a Doctor is intended to be there for; support, guidance, diagnosis and treatment. I ALWAYS leave the doctors office and think, "Wow, what a waste of time, I could have called my Mom and gotten the same answer with more compassion!!"

I know this is a generality and I'm am certain that there are many amazing doctors out there that don't fit this stereotype but talking among many of my friends and family we all feel the same way- the true compassion for one's wellbeing and feelings are overlooked amongst Doctor's nowadays.

I don't believe that Doctors are aware of how much 15 minutes of eye contact means when your not feeling well or your concerned about something. It doesn't take much to feel valued and when there is some compassion behind the quick shove out the door then your less inclined to think your hour and a half driving-sitting-waiting was completely meaningless. The question here is; are doctors too swamped to dedicate the necessary attention to their patients or do they have a tendency to feel that the more patients they can crame into their days the better?

Talking to my clients, many feel the same way, why go to the Doctors where they feel like one among millions and therefore, they forgo seeing the Doctor altogether. As we grow older it's crucial that our blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose levels, mammograms, pap smears, colonoscopies, etc. are regularly administered to avoid future health complications. Avoiding the Doctor in turn leads to an increase in chronic disease which is an issue our country is facing more than ever.

A great example of this is when I went into the emergency room just a few months ago with a horrible migraine. After an hour waiting I was finally called back! hooray I thought, finally I get to see a doctor to help me with my pounding head... Nope, I waited yet another hour in the hospital room (which I hate to begin with) until someone came in briefly and asked what was wrong. They automatically intravenously gave me a migraine medication to relieve the pain. Within 5 minutes I was having severe side-effects, I couldn't lift my head and it was difficult to speak. I started freaking out naturally, it was the oddest feeling I've ever had and when my husband yelled out that I was having an allergic reaction it took nearly 20 minutes before someone even entered the room. Long story short, supposedly the nurse was instructed to give me the medication gradually throughout 15 minutes but instead she gave it to me all in about 10 seconds. Nice, right??

Where is the sense of urgency and where is the compassion?

Doctors have one of the most prestigious well-respected jobs in the world and I know the road to becoming a doctor isn't an easy one. Therefore, I do have respect for their practice but I hope for the well-being of our future that we acquire a younger generation of Doctor's who not only diagnose and treat but give the patients the attention and respect that they deserve.

Samson & I Found a Reason

I may be bias because of Emily's red hair but I really love this dance and song. Really unique and inspiring! The fluidness of her moves mixed with the jagged abruptness in other's makes for a powerful combination. Simply Beautiful. Hope you enjoy:)

This one made me cry. I'm emotional I can't help it!!!! I love this so much.

Monday

Black Swan- Ballet-Inspired Fashion

I am so excited to see Black Swan this weekend starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. It looks like a somewhat dark thriller movie but has splashes of romance, dance and amazing fashion. If you browse through any fashion magazine right now you'll see pages full of ballet-inspired clothing and I figure alot of this trend has to do with the release of this movie. Think flowy light-weight materials, feathers, tulle, blacks, whites, beiges and light pinks. It's a bit romantic with a touch of edge. Look at some of the looks I found from my short time browsing, there were many looks from top designers such as Vera Wang, Dolce&Gabbana, Dior, Givenchy among many more!

The Power of Love

Erin Kramp is a woman who definitely makes my list of most inspirational people. As soon as Erin had discovered her breast cancer was terminal she sought out ways to cope and stay connected to her daughter, Peyton, who at the time was only 6 years old. Erin understood that trying to teach life lessons to Peyton at such a young age may not be as meaningful as they would be as she was growing up and was seeking the advice of a mother. She began to video tape herself talking about everything from beauty tips, to finding the perfect man, to welcoming her husbands new girlfriend after she passed. By the time she lost her battle, Erin was able to document volumes of precious footage to pass along to Peyton to show her love and be able to offer advice even if she wasn't there in person.

Erin's story was featured on Oprah years ago and I remember being in awe of her grace and charismatic personality. She smiled, she laughed and she seemed to fully accept and be at peace with the fact that she was dying. This story will forever hold a special place in my heart and may be one of the most outstanding demonstrations of love I have ever witnessed.

Friday

Blushing

I would consider myself to be pretty darn girly so, you would assume that I'm a huge fan of pink like most girls. Well, your wrong. In fact, pink has always been one of my least favorite colors. I have always boycotted the color but recently have found a new found love for blush pink, which I would describe as being a very light pink with a hint of peach. To me it's a natural romantic color which reminds me of ballerinas and looks fabulous on all skin types . You all know that I'm quite fair, okay let's be real I'm one shade darker than being albino and I was always told light colors like these would wash me out but in reality I feel the most beautiful in this color. I feel natural and fresh in this color and when you throw on a bit of pink blush and nude lipstick it makes for a classy organic look. Here are some of my favorite blush pink looks!
